The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity is a
Genius play that is about the mind boggling racism that exists in the WWE franchise, while still managing to make people fall in love with the sport itself.
The play follows Macedonio Guerra who has loved wrestling his whole life and now he works as one, as the heel, the designated loser. He finds an opportunity to turn his career around by roping in his friend Vigneshwar Paduar to form a duo, where they assume identities as racist, anti-american caricatures. The play follows Mace (for short) as he grapples between his love for the sport and the dignity that he has to throw away to participate.
One of the video games that I loved growing up was the WWE video game. The character creator was my favorite part of the game, allowing me to make Shrek go toe to toe with an Oompa Loompa. So of course for this project I decided to make all my character renderings on the video game’s character creator.
Macedonio Guerra as Che Chavez Castro
Mace is a mid-late 20s boy of Puerto Rican decent that loves wrestling with his whole person. He starts the show out as the heel where he’s wearing wrestling tights and a luchador mask, which he “changes out” of by throwing on his Yankees zip up, sweatpants and his headphones.
Mace’s rebrand was to create an anti-American, Mexican (which he isn’t) character. I felt like for Che’s costume the sombrero wearing stereotype that other productions had been using was a bit too on the nose and dated. So I decided to focus on the criminalization of the Cholo style. I gave him a white tank, large dickies shorts, an oversized flannel, high-top sneakers, a bandana, dark sunglasses, and a number of chains. I felt like this better represented the modern Fox News portrayal of the “dangerous Mexican.” His final look is when he strips off his facade to wrestle in the end.

Vigneshwar Paduar as The Fundamentalist
VP is a slightly older Indian guy that Mace rope into THE wrestling. He is assigned to be The Fundamentalist an anti-American Middle-Eastern man, they really just say: he’s brown so that’s good enough. To be fair WWE had Italians doing the Middle-Eastern stereotypes not too long ago so… yeah. Anyways I based his first look off of celebrity fits from the 2010s because one of his traits is he’s hot, he has a graphic T, jeans, sneakers, brown leather jacket, studded ears and a crucifix.
For the Fundamentalist, I’ve played my fair share of Call of Duty which has always had an anti-Middle-Eastern rhetoric, so I tried to replicated the imagery from that. The star of the show is his turban, which ties over his head and then drapes around his neck and over his shoulders, the turban and sunglasses were a common one to see in COD. I then gave him loose flowy pants and wrist wraps. For his at home look I put him in boxers and a tank along with his jewelry because he’s hot,

Chad Deity as Himself
THE STAR OF THE SHOW, THE KING OF THE RING, CHAAAADDDD DEEEEIIIIITTYYYY!!!
Based this guy off of Hulk Hogan hence the facial hair (also check out his chest hair). For his interview attire I just gave him a suit and tie that matched his in ring colors, which he wears most of the show. Chad Deity is an interesting character because while he is the most powerful wrestler and fully accepts his role, he is still dehumanized and used as a tool. So I chose to make his outfit incredibly vulnerable giving him the smallest wrestling briefs, wrist guards, kick guards, and some chains. There’s also something to be said about the hyper sexualization of black men, but I’m not educated enough for that.
Anyways his entrance attire we just add a crown and a really cool fur cape.

EKO as the Douchebag he is
EKO is the Vince McMahon of THE wrestling, the old CEO of WWE and an overall vile human being.
His outfit was pretty easy to make, I just colored the suit to match what McMahon would wear, the hard part was getting his likeness to match my roommate’s.

Billy Heartland and The Villain
These guys are just the Heels of the show, they show up get beat up by the Fundamentalist or Chad and then leave. I gave them both western vibes because that felt the most “American.”
Heartland is rocking some jeans, cowboy boots, a dress shirt, bowtie, a leather vest, a cape, star shaped glasses, fingerless gloves, and 10 gallon hat.
The villain has got tiny trunks, chaps, spurred boots, fingerless gloves, a black overcoat, a bandanna, a brimmed hat, and a mask. For both of their ring attires, they just strip off some of the things.
